Nasr Ghoniem is a University of California Distinguished Professor with UCLA's Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department who was a General Chair for MMM-2004, the 2nd International Conference on Multiscale Materials Modeling. Among his research interests are Damage and Failure of Materials in Mechanical Design, Mechanics and Physics of Material Defects, Material Degradation in Severe Environments, Plasma and Laser Processing, Materials Non-equilibrium, Pattern formation and Instability Phenomena, and Radiation Interaction with Materials. Professor Ghoniem is a member of The American Nuclear Society, the American Academy of Mechanics, the Materials Research Society, The American Society for Mechanical Engineers, and the American Physical Society. He is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Nuclear Materials, the Journal of Computational Methods in Engineering Science, the Journal of Computational and Theoretical Nano Science, and the International Journal of Materials & Mechanics in Design. He has over 270 publications and 192 refereed journal articles. In 1986, Professor Ghoniem was awarded the world's first patent on Low Activation Ferritic Steels, U.S. Patent No. 4,622,067. |
