Stéphane Roux obtained an Engineer diploma from Ecole Polytechnique (1983) and Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (1986), from which he received his PhD in 1990. He joined the French National Scientific Research Center (CNRS) in 1991, at Ecole Supérieure de Physique et Chimie Industrielles, where he developed a research activity on the mechanical properties of heterogeneous media (damage and fracture, granular media) based on statistical physics approaches. In 1997, he moved to a joint research lab between CNRS and Saint-Gobain (one of the world leading company in material production and processing) as the department head. The activity of this laboratory was dedicated to glass surface and interfaces. In 2007, back on a CNRS position, he joined the Laboratoire de Mécanique et Technologie, at Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan. He presently develops digital image correlation techniques and identification procedures applied to a large variety of materials and mechanical tests. He is the author of more than 220 articles in refereed journals, and has edited four books. He was a recipient of the CNRS Silver Medal in 2006.
